MY VOLUNTEER DIARY

Hello everyone!

My name is Wendy. I’m 17 years old, from Colombia. I live with my sister, my mother and my father. I love the animals, in fact, I am study at university "Veterinary Medicine & Zootechnics", I am course third semester.
The country that I choose is India. I choose India because this country has many abuses of animals such as elephants, tigers and other animals.

For example, in the circus animals are used for people to have fun and to decorate the show, and I don't like to see animals trained in this type of places.

I graduated from school two years ago. Then, when I finished I traveled to India, with the objective of eradicate a little this situations. I traveled with my family and my friends, they were an important part of the project, and they helped me with the organization of the activities and the progress of the opportunity.

In my first days in India, I learned more about the good treatment of animals and I also researched the laws that protect them in order to argue all my opinions and avoid legal problems.
We started by going to the circuses and being part of the audience, there were several shows where animals were seen in low body condition and in situations of abuse.
In our second week, we tried to talk with the people who own the circuses, and we left a plan of care and adequate food for each animal. In addition to this, we left a veterinarian in charge, who took control of everything else
When we reviewed our work, we felt that we had made a lot of progress, because when we returned to these places, the animals looked better, the feeling was very pleasant.

In our free time, my family, my friends and I decided to meet new places and, of course, take many photos.
I started to practice Hindi, the official language of some parts of India, I worked a lot in this volunteer project and, because of that, I decided to create a group to train young volunteers. When it was time to return home, I designed a blog where I left evidence of the development of this process.

I felt that the people didn’t have information about the animal behavior, people think they are objects or things, but they feel and know of love and fidelity.

This experience was amazing and I had many different emotions, but I am sure it was very nice to live this experience because I learned to interact with the animals and with all their environment.

People should be volunteers because it is an opportunity where you discover different ways of seeing life and the world

  2. I really like your project because I know that animals can't defend themselves without being mistreated, I also like that you talk to the owners of the circus to try to improve the care of the animals and I would like to help you one day with this project.
